NEIS: Self Employment and unemployment

Mr Arie Moses President National NEIS Association will be presenting at the Long Term Unemployment Conference.

Self Employment as a way out of unemployment or under employment

“The presentation aims to look at various self employment activities matured aged, indigenous, people with dissability, culturally and lingustically diverse people and young can avail themselves to break out of the unemployment or under employment cycle.

The presentation will explore the benefits and some of the pitfalls of various self employment models such as the New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS), Social Enterprises and Co-Operatives.

Each of these models have appeal depending on the target audience. Social Enterprises for example are a very sustainable model for Indigenous people in remote mining areas, whilst Co-Operatives can be a very successful model for people living in Regional and Rural areas.

The presentation will explore the benefits of the various models and will discuss related issues such as legal structures, access to affordable community finance, Marketing and Organisational Matters associated with each of the models.” ”

About the presenter Mr. Arie Moses, President of the National NEIS Association

Arie has had over 18 years experience in supporting small and emerging businesses through the NEIS scheme, establishment of a number of community social enterprises and private consultancy.

As well, Arie pioneered in the mid 90’s a NEIS model for people for whom English is not their first language. This gave access to the NEIS program to recently arrived migrants and refugees from the Horn of Africa, Eastern Europe and Central and South America.

Arie sits on a number of advisroy committees and works closely with Community Finance branch of the National Australia Bank advising them on their Community Finance Loan Scheme.

As President of the National NEIS Association Arie advises Ministers and Senior Public Servants on self employment needs of unemployed people, in particular people with Disabilities, Migrants and Indigenous people.
