Improving young people’s transition to work
The 2018 National Employment Solutions Conference will be held at Twin Towns Services Club, Tweed Heads, NSW over the 8th – 9th October.
The conference provides the opportunity to be involved through presenting, learning, engaging, networking and collaborating with other professionals within the employment sector.
Joining us at the conference is Mr Ivan Neville from the Department of Jobs and Small Business who will present on ‘Improving young people’s transition to work’.
Ivan Neville, from the Labour Market Research and Analysis Branch in the Australian Government Department of Jobs and Small Business, will present on the challenges and opportunities in the local jobs market and will provide a unique view of the demands and challenges young people face when entering the workforce. Ivan will draw on the analysis and research undertaken within the Department, including insights from employers on what they are looking for in job seekers, how job seekers can better connect with employment opportunities and how employers recruit for their vacancies.
The labour market for young people is particularly challenging, with increased competition for vacancies, fewer entry-level job opportunities and more employers requiring relevant work experience. In addition, employers are increasingly looking for a range of personal qualities when recruiting young people, including: a positive attitude; demonstrated employability skills; motivation; and someone who is prepared to learn and take direction.
Ivan is the manager of the Labour Market Research and Analysis Branch (Department of Jobs and Small Business). Ivan’s Branch undertakes extensive analysis on a range of issues, including identifying the current and future demand for skills; understanding what employers are looking for; and helping job seekers prepare for the changing world of work. Ivan has had an extensive career in a range of labour market research, statistics and policy roles in a number of government organisations. Ivan is regularly asked to provide his unique perspective on the ever-evolving labour market story and he delivers presentations both here and overseas.
